Baby Anshu was born in Chhapra village, Bihar to a poor family. Her birth was not a celebration, however the fact that she had a hole in her heart, was a matter of great concern for her parents, Bijoy and Leelawati.

When the three day old baby was facing breathing problem they admitted her to a local hospital in Patna, where she was oxygenated for around 20 days. The local hospital discharged her with some medicinal prescription and advice to administer oxygen during an emergency.

Unmoved by the statements of her community, Leelawati insisted on bringing her daughter to Delhi and get her treated from a good hospital. The challenge was affordability. It was then that Sunil Kumar Ray an employee of Max Healthcare who also belongs to the same village, referred them to Max India Foundation.

Anshu was then brought to Delhi and admitted to Max Super Speciality Hospital, Saket on July 19 where she was provided proper treatment and finally operated for BT Shunt surgery on July 20. The entire treatment was funded by Max India Foundation.

Baby Anshu, now 17 months old, is recovering well. As Dr. Kulbhushan Dagar from Max Hospital Saket says, “She has been a fighter, right from her birth to have survived her ailment. We are happy that she’s recovering fast and expected to lead a normal life going ahead.

Bijoy and Leelawati are thankful to MIF and Max Healthcare for saving their daughter’s life and Sunil plans to keep Anshu with him in Delhi till the time she fully recovers.

Back in the village, when people come to know about the improving condition of Anshu, they feel happy but at the same time ashamed about their attitude. Anshu has proved them wrong and hopefully created a ray of hope that the daughters in her village will now be treated more affectionately.
